Millions in Scholarships for Verizon Employee Dependants and Children

The Verizon Foundation – scholarship program has given away millions of dollars toward the college education of children and dependents of Verizon employees.

The scholarships are for incoming freshman and students continuing their education at an accredited four-year institution in the fall. Each scholarship is renewable for a maximum of three years and has a total value of $20,000.

Since 2001, the scholarship program has invested more than $42.3 million toward the college education of children and dependents of Verizon employees, benefiting 2,353 students.

“Education is a key issue for Verizon and for our communities,” said Rose Stuckey Kirk, Verizon Foundation president. “As a technology company, we know the value of education and are proud to support our future leaders through this scholarship program.”

Verizon chooses its recipients from thousands of candidates on the basis of financial needs, academic achievement, and extracurricular activities. The foundation awards the scholarships in partnership with Scholarship America, which is the nation’s largest private sector scholarship and educational support organization.

The Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Verizon Communications, is devoted to improving literacy and education; creating awareness and preventing domestic violence. The Foundation is also a dedicated promoter of the use of technology in health-care delivery. It has donated millions to non-profit agencies in America as well as abroad and conducts one of the nation’s largest employee-volunteer programs.

The foundation has donated millions in combined contributions and its employees have dedicated almost 7 million volunteer hours of community service.
